Meet the Choirs of the 2009-2010 AHS Choral Program

Freshmen Treble (A Day / 1st Period)
All Freshmen women entering the choir program at Arlington High begin in this ensemble. Upon arrival, each singer is auditioned for voice classification and music knowledge. This group works on advancement in vocal pedagogy, sightreading, choral methods and repertoire. Members are required to participate in all concerts at Arlington High School and the UIL Concert & Sightreading contest. Grade eligibility is a requirement. If grades become an issue, a student may be moved to another choir period.

AHS Men ( A Day / 2nd Period)
A TTBB choir setting performing all styles of music. The choir works on vocal pedagogy, sightreading improvement, choral etiquette and theory. This choir includes new and less experienced singers and requires no audition. All members are required to attend all Choral concerts and UIL Concert & Sight Reading Contest if eligible. Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors.

Colt Chorale (A Day / 3rd Period)
Mixed choir setting (SATB) performing selections from all musical periods. The choir is made up of Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors who pass the audition. Members must have previous years of choral training, a good grade history, excellent work ethic and the ability to sightread and move quickly through intense and fast-paced rehearsals. All members are required to attend one 1-hour sectional per week outside of class for a grade. Members are expected to take voice lessons and to audition for the TMEA All State Choir. All members are expected to retain grade eligibility in order to keep a place in Colt Chorale.

Cantabile (B Day / 5th Period)
Treble choir setting (SSAA) performing selections from all musical periods. This is an auditioned choir made up of Sophomore, Junior and Senior women. This ensemble continues study of vocal pedagogy and advanced repertoire and focuses on the advancement of group and individual sightreading skills. This group is expected to perform at all Arlington High School concerts and the UIL Concert & Sightreading contest. Members are expected to take voice lessons and to retain grade eligibility.

Kantorei (B Day / 5th Period)
This class is a combination of choral methods, theory, sightreading and music appreciation. The students in this class will receive individual attention in all of the above, as well as help with academics and eligibility. Students in this class may or may not be involved in all concerts at Arlington High School. It will depend upon their preparation and schedules.

Select Women’s Ensemble (B Day / 6th Period)
Treble choir setting (SSAA) performing selections from all musical periods. The choir is made up of Sophomore, Junior and Senior Women who pass the audition. Members must have previous years of choral training, a good grade history, excellent work ethic, and the ability to sightread and move quickly through intense and fast-paced rehearsals. All members are required to attend one 1-hour sectional per week outside of class for a grade. Members are encouraged to study voice and audition for the TMEA All State Choir. Grade eligibility is expected in order to keep a place in Select Women's Ensemble

Choraliers ( B Day / 7th Period)
A performance choir (SATB) performing Vocal Jazz, Musical and Pop selections, madrigals and chamber music. The Choir is made up of Sophomore, Junior and Senior Men and Women who pass the audition. The audition includes a musical theater selection, choreography, and a TMEA All State sight reading selection. Members are required to purchase a uniform, dance shoes and a choreography fee of $100 ($50 for the Fall Show and $50 for the Spring Show). Members are required to be in Colt Chorale. Members must be mature and dependable due to the excessive amount of performances throughout the community both during the school day and many evenings. Members are expected to keep their grades above passing and are responsible for making up all school work missed due to Show Choir Gigs.

Stephanie Locker Hall, Choreographer
Music Theory (B Day / 7th Period)
This class studies the fundamentals of music theory. Students will study and be tested on music theory, ear training and composition.

Advanced Placement Music Theory (B Day / 8th Period)
This class is made up of advanced music students and teaches the fundamentals of music theory in preparation for college music courses. Students will study and be tested on music theory, ear training and composition.

EXTRACURRICULAR ENSEMBLES
Take Note (Monday evenings 7:00-9:00 PM)
A mixed choir setting (SATB) made up of auditioned Sophomore, Junior and Seniors. This group meets on Monday evenings from 7:00-9:00 PM and each member must also be a member of either Colt Chorale, Select Women’s or Cantabile. Members are required to purchase a costume, appropriate dance shoes and a $50 choreography fee. Members must be dependable and maintain eligibility. Each member must be a professional representative of our choir program and our school.

Vivace! (After School Rehearsals-TBA)
A treble choir setting (SSAA) made up of Freshmen women. This group will audition upon arriving at Arlington High School. They will have a set rehearsal time each week and they are responsible for purchasing a costume, appropriate dance shoes and a $50 choreography fee. Members must be dependable and maintain eligibility. Each member must be a professional representative of our choir program and our school.

Horsemen (After school-TBA)
A tenor/bass setting (TTBB) made up of auditioned men from Men’s Ensemble. They will have a set rehearsal time each week and they are responsible for purchasing a costume, appropriate dance shoes and a $50 choreography fee. Members must be dependable and maintain eligibility.

Chamber Singers (Wednesday 3:00-4:30)
A mixed choir setting (SATB) made up of auditioned Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. This is an intense ensemble, performing very challenging a cappella chamber music. The group is self-taught and self-directed and performs at all concerts. This group also competes in the American Classic Madrigal Festival in San Antonio, Texas. Members are required to prepare all music and to attend all rehearsals.

**Colt Chorale and Select Women's Ensemble members are required to attend a one hour sectional PER WEEK for a grade. The students arrange the specific time and location of the sectional and roll is taken. This is turned in to Mrs. Menger for attendance.
